Picking up a pair and then thinking you're set for monitoring is a fools errand. They might have apprenticed with someone else who really knows the monitors well. Usually, in my opinion, they learned them in a studio with a console. Think about how mixers "learn" the NS-10s. They are popular because with the NS-10s you know what to expect.įor the project studio they are useful but honestly, I would just go with the modern Yamahas instead. They've been around for a long time and probably aren't going to go away soon. For a studio that has a revolving client base its a good thing to have them. They are the standard, the baseline, the thing everyone knows how they sound. The main thing about them is they are in every mid to high end studio but not because they sound "good". I used a Bryston amp with the NS-10s and they sounded great. I sold them recently and replaced them with a pair of Equator D5s. I owned a pair of NS-10s for about 9 years.
